RE: Duramax LLY Overheating

OK KillerBee I beleive you've found the problem. which CAI do you recommend, the GM Warranty CAI or is there another you've found to work. You did a great job getting to the bottom of this problem.

RE: How many tow with GM 6L gasser?

My experience, with my trucks pulling 13,500lbs up the same hill in PA. The load is a 10k fork truck loaded on a 3,500lb trailer, all trucks are 2500 HD 2005 DURA MAX 3.73 gears - effortless, crest the hill 65 mph with plenty more to spare 2006 6.0 4:10 gears - 45 mph max but still got the job done. 2007 8.1 4:10 gears - easy pull, 55 mph there was more if I wanted to let it scream

RE: New tires- going from 245's to 265's same rims??

Do what you want, but I've run the 265 on stock rims on a number of my GMC, Chevy trucks. Never had an issue. Ride and handling was same or better.

RE: AWD GMC Yukon

Only test drove one, run fine. Just don't like the Idea of AWD full time. We went to the Suburban because it still gives the option of 2W or 4W. Good luck.

RE: poor mileage on 99 dually with 7.4

RE: Will need tires soon for 2500 Yukon XL/Suburban 4x4

Well, I got 2 cents worth = Yoko's 265-75-16 ( like the above post )I've been using them on my 2500hd pickup with stock wheels for years now they work great look better than stock and that truck works hard, It's a Diesel pulls 16K when needed. these tires have great traction and ride. Good Luck. they are only 1/2" wider than stock at the rim.

RE: Vehicle Prices

Everything goes in cycles, just hang on to that great truck till the worm turns. I beat the heat about six months ago. I traded in my 05 2500 Sub got a fair trade in at that time, but I bought another Sub cause I need the room and makes my wife feel safe when we travel. So i'm still in the same old boat! Good luck with your guest

RE: Chevy 8.1 engine?

Yeah they still make it but, it's not sold in 2500 or the 3500 class trucks. They sell to RV makers, Boat engine manufactures plus the 4500,5500 class trucks, I have one in a 2007 2500 GMC love it for the work it can do. and it is a truck that carry's weight and tows 100% time. It's a pure work hard truck engine not made for fuel economy. If I run a lighter truck I'd go back to the 6.0. 8.5 MPG aver. city / highway

RE: Need Advice on Upgrade of 2000 1500 Silverado

If you like your truck, start by changing the gearing in the rear end. If your pulling part time go with the 3.73 ratio, pulling full time go down to the 4.10 ratio. Thats what GM does with the trucks like yours to up the tow ratings. and it takes the stress of the drive line. good luck! cost $600-$1000

RE: Toyota Tundra - Any experience. good or bad

RE: Tundra problems/Consumer reports - Are they real?

I haven't seen any of Tundra's used as a real fleet work truck yet in PA. Thats the trew test. As a RV or family truckster doesn't prove durablity. Fleets in my area still use the Fords, Dodge, and Chevy/GMC trucks for the hard work.

RE: Anybody change to Synthetic Oil

Here's what I found with my engines. the 2005 6.6 Duramax starts easier in the cold weather with Delvac 1, the 8.1 big block chevys run cooler with Delvac 1. These 8.1's are in a boat, when running dino engine temps always ran 163, with the syn. the temps run 159 to me that means less friction. our friend has a sister ship to ours and our fuel burns on long trips were close till I switched to syn., now I burn less for the same distance? This is my experance. I now use syn. in everything I run and go with longer OCI to recoup the diferance in cost.

RE: Modify GM hitch ?

I used to build my hitchs when I had the time, To answer your question, I think you have a good idea. The GM hitch is there, so add some plate, angle or tube steel to beef it up. Have fun.

RE: What is the best SUV for towing smaller travel trailer?

Suburban will do a nice job, 2008 have active fuel managment that will keep the highway milage around 19mpg when she's not towing, Tow rating with 5.3 and the 373 rear is 7200lbs.
